We are happy to present KHPT’s latest publication titled “Investigating violence against Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs): a mixed-methods study from rural North Karnataka, India”. The research paper deals with the important issue of violence against ASHAs, India’s female frontline health workers who act as a critical link between the village community and the health systems. While the ASHAs form the backbone of the last-mile service delivery process, the challenges and the underlying gender barriers faced by them are insufficiently studied. This paper, published in the Journal of Global Health Reports draws from the KHPT experience of engaging with ASHAs as part of its maternal and Child Health work (MCH) in the Koppal district of northern Karnataka. The paper throws light on the multiple forms and experiences of violence among the ASHAs and the need for a multilevel approach to safeguard their rights. We hope that this piece of research will encourage more exploration and action on this important subject in order to empower the world’s largest cadre of female frontline workers in India.
