KHPT CEO Mr Mohan HL made a statement at a high-level meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York on the theme of “Advancing science, finance and innovation, and their benefits, to urgently end the global tuberculosis epidemic, in particular, by ensuring equitable access to prevention, testing, treatment and care”. The UN Secretariat granted special accreditation for KHPT to participate in the High-Level Meeting on the Fight Against TB on September 22,which was convened by the President of the General Assembly (PGA) and held at United Nations Headquarters in New York during the 78th General Assemby. Speaking at the meeting, Mr Mohan said, “We need to accelerate global and national research, development, roll-out, and access to new TB vaccines, diagnostics, drugs, and other essential new tools, including digital health technologies geared to the needs of the most neglected, key and vulnerable populations. It is crucial to invest more funds to End TB.”
The members of General Assembly adopted the Political Declaration of the high-level meeting, reaffirming their collective commitment to end TB by 2030 through increased funding, clear targets, provision of lifesaving treatment and establishment of legal and policy frameworks to mitigate stigma.
Mr Mohan HL had earlier attended a multi sectoral hearing from civil society representatives at the UN Secretariat, New York on May 23, where he had made a statement on the importance of the community response to end TB.
