On November 18, KHPT, in partnership with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), hosted an event in Madurai titled “Scaling Up of Edible Oil Fortification in Tamil Nadu.” The gathering brought together key stakeholders, including Ms. Inoshi Sharma, Executive Director of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) as chief guest; Ms. Bhuvaneswari Balasubramanian, India Country Director at Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN); Additional Commissioner for Food Safety,Tamil Nadu Mr. T A Devaparthasarthy, Southern Regional Director, Mr V K Pancham and Designated Officer of Madurai, Dr Jayaramapandian and edible oil millers from across the state.
The meeting served as a platform for knowledge sharing, exploring challenges, and discussing opportunities for scaling up edible oil fortification in Tamil Nadu. The FSSAI and Tamil Nadu Food Safety & Drugs Administration (FDA), continue to support initiatives for quality assurance of edible oil and in scaling up fortification by actively engaging with edible oil millers to provide ongoing technical support to ensure availability of quality fortified edible oil at a population level. GAIN and KHPT are providing technical support to FSSAI and the Tamil Nadu state FDA in Large Scale Staple food fortification including edible oil fortification.
