KHPT organized a colloquium on the topic, “Human Development and Health in Karnataka” with Professor Vinod Vyasulu, former Director of the Centre for Budget and Policy Studies, on January 18 at the KHPT Head Office in Bengaluru.

Professor Vyasulu, who was instrumental in preparing the Human Development report for Karnataka, shared his rich insights on the utility of indicators for formulating and evaluating policies. He said that indicators developed to assess the different aspects of development may not always be an objective tool, and traced  the  background of how the Human Development Index was devised. He also spoke about  the need for  these indices to be relevant to suit the current conditions. He  concluded the  talk by stressing the need for a constant dialogue between civil society, elected representatives at the grassroots and the bureaucracy.
